MARTIN SAMUEL
HAIR DESIGN
Martin Samuel began his career as artistic director of Crimpers, the first unisex hair salon
in London at the end of the swinging sixties.  He then moved into print and advertising
commercials and then the film industry for which he has designed for the past 35 years.   
Among his numerous feature films are
Stardust, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Station to
Station World Tour, A Kiss Before Dying
, culminating in Evita, creating 42 hairstyles for
Madonna as Eva Peron and for which he received a BAFTA nomination.  In 2003, he
designed hair styles for
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for which
he received a BAFTA Award and a 2004 Oscar nomination.  He has since worked with
Johnny Depp on
Secret Window; Penelope Cruz on Noel; Sahara and Chromophobia and
Keira Knightly in
Domino.  Martin designed and chiefed the hair department for Pirates of
the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest
,  receiving a BAFTA nomination, and Pirates of the
Caribbean III: World’s End
, receiving a 2008 Oscar nomination.  He has worked on the
soon-to-be-released film
Elegy with Penelope Cruz and the Showtime series Tracey
Ullman’s State of the Union
(designing 50 wigs for Tracey Ullman).  He is currently working
on
Travelling with Jennifer Aniston.
